Harold Alfond Athletic Center
Thomas College | Waterville, Maine | 36,000 SF
Not your basic box – this student recreation center incorporates a pre-engineered building system to meet schedule and budget constraints while developing a series of interior views and visual connections that enhance safety, programming and operations.
Sited to create a new entrance landmark for the College, the Alfond Center combines three full-size basketball courts, dance and plyometrics studios, strength training and cardiovascular fitness room, locker rooms, and team support and storage programs. The 24,000 square foot mini-fieldhouse provides simultaneous baseball practice, pickup basketball, and jogging track use, or it quickly converts to host NCAA-sanctioned tennis competition. Similarly is can seat 1,500 people for dinner or 2,200 people for lectures and performances, providing additional rental income streams for the institution.
